In ceremonial playing situations, trumpeters often turn to an instrument model that's a bit more grand than the standard. This is where the herald trumpet fits the bill. By tightening the coiling in the instrument's body and pipes, manufacturers are able to elongate the straight tubing so that the bell sits far out in front of the player.
